Hello friends—Winston here! I’m so glad that it’s almost fall. It takes a little longer to arrive in Texas, but it sure is worth the wait. The next few months are really my favorite time of year. Which is why, this fall, I’d like to have a nice outdoor retreat—a place to rest my paws while I enjoy the crisp, cool outdoor air. I’ve been doing my research, and I have a few ideas for building the ultimate dog house. Here are my favorites:
Who ever said dogs don’t appreciate art?! I think some artwork is a must in any gentleman’s dog house. I love these dog prints from my friends at SampleHouse, and I think they’ll go quite well with the color scheme I’ve picked out. (That one on the bottom reminds me—I need to retrieve my ball from under the couch.)
These fun books about Earth’s greatest creatures will be perfect for my my new coffee table. They would also look great in a little basket on my new porch. And since I can get all those items at SampleHouse (it’s okay, I know the owner), that will make shopping easy! I’ll definitely have to keep these in mind for Christmastime.
This isn’t really a decorating tip, but I think it’s important. My new dog house needs to be placed on a raised platform, like those houses on stilts near the beach. This will keep water, ice, and snow out of my cozy abode! Plus, I’m not sure if my dog insurance has water damage coverage. Which reminds me…
I’ll have to paint my home’s exterior with a weatherproof, lead-free paint and use some heavy duty materials for the roof. I can’t risk a roof leak while I’m relaxing! I’ll probably also use some extra-sturdy material for the door, like a heavy plastic dog door flap or some thick burlap material to keep the cold out. Since I’m not a young pup anymore, I’ll have to be extra-careful when it gets cold.
I hope this inspires you to build your best friend their dream house, too!
