Hello Friends, Winston here.
As the CEO of SampleHouse, I make it my number one priority to let everyone know how proud we are to be in Texas. Also, naps. Those are definitely a priority, too.
Let’s be real here, folks. The best thing about Texas is the food. Now, I may not be able to eat a lot of it because some foods just aren’t in my doggie diet, but my nose still works! And let me tell you, being a dog in Texas sure is a blessing. Some of my favorite things here at SampleHouse revolve around the food culture that makes Texas so, well, Texan.
My favorite cookbook right now is Cowgirl Chef: Texas Cooking with a French Accent by Ellise Pierce. “But Winston, you’re a dog!” You might say. Yes, it’s true. But I’ve been working on my reading skills and so far, I’ve come to discover that I’ve quite the knack for reading recipes. I’m smitten with the Cornbread Madeleines and Jalapeño Tartines, and I think you will be, too.
Let’s talk about flavor. If I had all the freedom of choice when it came to meals, I’d be using Stonewall Kitchen’s line of rubs on every piece of protein that came across the table. Don’t get me wrong, I love my daily kibble (it’s very exciting when it hits the bowl!), but my sniffer can smell this magic product through the steel can. And it smells like my Granddog’s South Texas ranch. Ah, memories.
Of course, all that spice and savory work will need to be rewarded once the meat sweats subside and your belly is ready for another round. For me, that takes about three minutes. I recommend whipping up something sweet in the greatest cake pan to ever exist: the Texas pan! We all know that nothing beats the Best Ever Chocolate Cake from the SampleHouse Cookbook after some hot, Texas barbecue. Why not make it ultra Texan and use this beauty! I thought you might like that. But, save me a little square? I have my puppy dog eyes ready to go.
Once the dishes are clean and our bellies are sufficiently full, I like to relax. However, this is no time to skimp on the Texas pride. Follow through on your Texas-sized intentions with some of these fun home goods like the Texas flag pillow, Texas landmarks pillow, and of course, a vintage State Fair of Texas print.
When all is said and done, kick back with a little trivia and challenge your friends and family on their knowledge of the best state in the union. Texas Bingo covers the land from Amarillo to Balmorhea to Corpus Christi and has hours of fun packed into a little cardboard box.
At SampleHouse, we can’t wait to help you pick out your favorite Texas decor, and of course I’ll be available for hugs and napping consultations.
Paws and Kisses,
