Good news: You don’t actually have to live in New Orleans to throw a Mardi Gras party that will turn your neighbors and friends green (and purple and gold!) with envy. Let SampleHouse be your headquarters for all things Mardi Gras—we have everything but the jazz band. Here are a few pointers to get the party started.
Food: Any social gathering requires a few irresistible food items. But a Mardi Pardi isn’t your typical social gathering. This is a party with roots in New Orleans, one of our country’s most culinary cities. To step up your game, you’ll need a fabulous cookbook packed with plenty of ideas to do justice to your Mardi Gras celebration. From one-bite appetizers like shrimp or crawfish to big bowls of red beans and rice or gumbo, we have a cookbook to cover you. Just don’t forget the decadent desserts, and of course, the King Cake. If you’re throwing a kid-friendly soirée, snacks to please little ones are a must. Just make sure to dial down the spice level on some of the adult offerings if you have kids in attendance.
Decorations: One of our favorite things about Mardi Gras is how much color—purple, green and gold, in particular—plays a part in this lively celebration. The deep violet represents justice, green represents faith and shimmering gold represents power—and we recommend that you incorporate all of them into your party décor. Mardi Gras party plates, cocktail napkins, festive stemware and colorful coasters are just a few of the things you’ll need, and we’re here to help you pick out your favorites.

Activities: As long as the jazz is loud and the food is good, your guests will keep themselves busy. But if you’re looking to spice things up or just get your crowd moving, there are plenty of options. Get kids involved in decorating some Mardi Gras masks with plenty of glitter and feathers or making noise makers with plastic cups. For the adults, New Orleans-themed trivia games or a mask fashion show with plenty of door prizes will surely spice things up.
