Crockpot meals are the most convenient when it comes to quick, easy and delicious meals. Just put all of the ingredients in the crockpot in the morning and let it cook all day. This Crockpot Bolognese sauce from the SampleHouse Cookbook can be added to any pasta of your choice. After making this recipe, this bolognese sauce could be your go to pasta sauce!
- 3 T. butter
- 1 onion, minced
- 1 carrot, peeled & chopped
- 1/4 c. minced celery
- 1/4 c. tomato paste
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp. minced fresh thyme or 1/4 tsp. dried
- 1/2 c. dry white wine
- 2 (28-oz.) cans crushed tomatoes
- 3 slices of good quality bread
- 1 c. heavy cream
- 2 lbs. turkey meat
- 1 lb. pork
Melt butter in a large skillet at medium high. Add onion, carrot, celery, tomato paste, garlic and thyme and cook until softened. Deglaze pan with the wine and transfer to the crockpot. Add tomatoes. Mash bread and cream into a paste, combine with the meat and 1/2 teaspoon of salt and pepper. Add to slow cooker and break up any large pieces. Cook 9-11 hours on low or 5-7 hours on high. Remove any fat from the surfaces before serving. This recipe makes so much you can freeze half of it immediately.
